Throwback Thursday Record

What is Throwback Thursday?

I’ve noticed several of these meme on a few book blogs. For example, Susan Loves Books does one, which is (or was originally) hosted by Renee@It’s Book Talk. I also noticed that another fellow blogger, Lorrea @ What ‘Cha Readin’?, was doing this as a monthly meme for her blog. Then there’s Reading Maria who is doing something called “Last Year I Was Reading” where she compares what she’s reading now to what she read a year ago. Finally, recently I noticed that Susan Osborn over at A Life in Books is doing a series of posts called “Blasts from the Past“. In most instances, they use this to share one of their favorite reads or older reviews. Lorrea is doing it for books she enjoyed over the last decade. I also just noticed that Lisa @ Bookshelf Fantasies was doing what she calls Flashback Friday, and I hope she’s still doing them! UPDATE: another blogger, Kristin Craves Books just started what she calls #ThrowbookThursday, which I thought would be about books I’d like to throw against the wall, but is actually just back list books! There’s also Susan @ A Life In Books, with her Blast from the Past posts, which are reviews of books read and loved, from before she started blogging.

I really like all of these ideas and am essentially stealing it from ALL of them, but with my own twists.

My Twists/Instructions:

  • The Chocolate Lady’s #ThrowbackThursday takes place on the Thursday before the first Saturday of every month (i.e., the Thursday before my monthly #6Degrees post).
  • My posts will highlight one of my previously published book reviews, and I encourage other participants to do the same.
  • If you want to participate but have a new blog that doesn’t have old reviews to highlight, you are encouraged to write a post about anything old that strikes your fancy!
  • If you want to tweet or share this post, or someone else’s post, or the reviews being highlighted, please use #ThrowbackThursday!
  • Please add the link to your post to the link party, below.
  • Please link back to this page on your post.

So… with no further ado, I give you…

The Chocolate Lady’s Throwback Thursday Book Review #33

Teaching Men Manners is No Laughing Matter?

My Book Review for “Cassandra French’s Finishing School for Boys” by Eric Garcia.

I “met” the author of this book back in the early 1990s on an internet forum! While most of his books are sci-fi based humorous novels, this one was a little different. Plus, it was made into a (sadly, short-lived) TV series in 2017!

cassandra frenchMy review starts thusly: “Cassandra French is a character that any woman would envy. She’s beautiful, has a lovely home and what seems to be a great job – she’s a lawyer for a Hollywood studio. Mind you, she doesn’t get the really big cases, being in the Business Affairs department, but what does that matter when you meet stars every day? Besides, Cassandra has a vocation. Cassandra knows exactly how all women really want to be treated. But that may not be an advantage, if she and her friends can’t find men who will treat them right. So she’s figured out what men need to learn. And she’s began her one-woman crusade to teach at least some of those boorish men (but just the ones with some potential) how to treat women properly. That’s when she “opened” her Finishing School for Boys. Mind you, that finishing school is in the basement of her house, and the boys she’s got there are hardly there of their own volition, but what difference does that make? …”

If you like this idea, and want to do your own Throwback Thursday post, please put the link in the comments below.

If you have your own Throwback Thursday or any other type of nostalgia post, you can let me know about your blog post in this link party below. (You can also just post a link to an old review you want us to look at, without making a separate post.) I’ll keep this link party open until my next #ThrowbackThursday post (scheduled for December 1, 2022).

  1. I have been having many strange things happening to me; it feels on purpose but not. I am being forced to give up or combine both blogs into one for the numbers to go up since my numbers are low; when will it ever be enough since all they do is repeat? I am sorry, this has nothing to do with throwbacks; all that you do is nice; you’re a professional. Thank you for replying, if you don’t see my post anymore, this is why. Best.

  2. I’ve been having problems with the font in my draft posts and when I edit too. I really dislike the small font. It’s set on S (small), but you can change it to M, L or XL, which is extremely tedious as you have to do it for each block. Fortunately I’m not having any problem submitting a picture.

I am having a problem with your Mr Linky – error code 502 Bad Gateway. So here’s the link to my Throwback Thursday post – https://booksplease.org/2022/11/03/throwback-thursday-they-came-to-baghdad-by-agatha-christie/

I haven’t come across Eric Garcia’s books before – they sound fun.

    1. I added it for you! Most of Eric Garcia’s novels are humorous sci-fi books, but this is a bit different. He also wrote a some other books, one which became the movie Matchstick Men with Nicolas Cage, and another which was made into the movie Repo Men. His stories are strange and twisted!

  3. Sorry, this has nothing to do with throwbacks; although I did lots of throwbacks for Halloween on both of my blogs they were not good enough. Anyhow, the subject at hand is WordPress it seems a bit glitchy when I log in to try and submit a post; the fonts are smaller and only let me access ‘classic’ which does not have any way to submit pic on there; I am unsure if you know of this experience with WordPress or you’re not a user in which case disregards. Thank you for sharing; I may be coming to an ending with my blogs on both sites. Just as well, I am not good enough.

    1. Yes, it has been glichy but… I’m not having the same problems as you seem to be having. But be assured that the fonts you see when you edit a post aren’t the ones that go up on the blog – those remain the default ones you chose to begin with. As for the classic not letting you submit a picture… that’s strange. I’ve always been able to do that. Maybe you should consult the help people to get instructions.
