Once upon a time, I wrote poetry!
Somewhere deep inside my #LetsDiscuss2020 #DiscussionSunday post about my regimen vs. impulse posting, I posed the question if anyone thought it might be fun for me to post some of my poetry here on my blog. Well, a couple of people showed interest, and I appreciate that. As for the rest of you, you are welcome to just click or scroll on by if you aren’t poetry people (I promise, I won’t be the least bit offended)!
This one was written in 2000!
Pantomime
I treasure my buried masks,
discarded but still useful
They remind me of the grotesque
scenes of my past.
Their faded glitter still
catches the corners of my vision,
even as I try to only reveal
the naked face I now prefer.
But sometimes, an old one
jumps up, sticking to my cheeks
changing the shape of my brows,
and pulling strange words
from my lips.
Though I grab at its edges,
and scratch at my temples,
the glue that keeps it pasted
can only dry and loosen,
when I twist my head away
and gaze again into the mirror
and find the eyes that hide, always,
just beneath the fake surface.

Yes, we do… now both figuratively AND literally!
