Topic for the week of May 28-June 3:
Who is your favorite character…of all the books you’ve read? Why? (submitted by Julie @ JadeSky).
The Book Blogger Hop was originally created by Jennifer @ Crazy-For-Books in March 2010 and ended on December 31, 2012. With Jennifer’s permission, I (Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer) relaunched the hop on February 15, 2013. Each week the hop will start on a Friday and end the following Thursday. There will be a weekly prompt featuring a book related question. The hop’s purpose is to give bloggers a chance to follow other blogs, learn about new books, befriend other bloggers, and receive new followers to your own blog.
Book Blogger Hop topic Topic for the week of May 28-June 3:
Who is your favorite character…of all the books you’ve read? Why? (submitted by Julie @ JadeSky).
Well, that’s a deceptively simple question. See, there are tons and tons of characters I totally adore, but the vast majority of them are actually based on real people. However, I think that this question is directed to fictional characters (even though I’m sure that no one would mind if I chose a real person from a historical fiction novel).
When it comes to those totally fictional characters, again, I have quite a long list of beloved ones. But not too long ago, one fictional character just blew my mind. That is:
Nina Markova from
“The Huntress” by Kate Quinn.
What is it about Nina that I totally adore? First, she’s totally spunky, doesn’t care what people think about her, she’s had a very difficult life, but nothing stopped her from learning to fly a plane. More importantly, despite being almost painfully independent, she’s also a real team player. When she finds out that the Russian air force isn’t going to let her pilot any of the fighter planes, she accepts this and is happy to take a supporting role, as long as she’s out there killing Nazis. Aside from her passionate side, she’s also compassionate, which we see in how she is with the people she loves. Finally, we get all this about Nina, even though she’s technically a secondary character! I love Nina so much that I even put a reference to her in the title of my review! I’ve told Kate this already, but if ever she wants to write a whole novel just about Nina, I’ll be the first one asking for the ARC!
And… that’s it!
What about you? Do you have a favorite fictional character? If so, who is it and why?
Thanks again to Billy @ Coffee Addicted Writer for this blog hop, and Julie @ JadeSky for the topic!

I agree that this is an incredibly difficult question! I haven’t read the book you mentioned, but Nina does sound like a great character!

A hard question! I do love Jenkin from Iris Murdoch’s “The Book and the Brotherhood”. As he’s my favourite IM character and she’s my favourite author, I’d have to say him! He’s good and decent, quiet and homely and does the right thing.

Don’t know Murdoch, but he sounds lovely.

Wow, this is a hard question! Okay, sticking to recent reads and not overthinking it, I’m going to say Maude from The Snow-Woman by Stella Gibbons. I loved her trajectory of coming back to love and relationship after some “frozen” years.
Nina sounds like a great character too, and I hope you get your wish of a whole book to focus on her. I actually often find that secondary characters become favorites (I should try to think of some examples, but I might end up here all day).

I only just read my first Stella Gibbons so I’ll note this one – sounds good. As for secondary characters that get their own books… Britt-Marie comes to mind immediately. In case you don’t know, she was a minor character in Fredrik Backman’s “My Grandmother” and then she got her own book “Britt-Marie Was Here”!

She sounds like a character that would be on my favorites list too. I love spunky, independent characters ❤️. I’m so in awe of you for being able to pick just one character!

She was the first one I thought of when I saw the question. Better not to think too much about these, because tomorrow it will be someone else!

Nina is such a good choice. When I saw the post title, I didn’t think that I could choose just one character. I really enjoy finding new characters to rave over. I would love to see another book for Nina though, as you say she was a great character.

Obviously, she isn’t my “all-time” favorite, just my most recent addition to the list.

I love Archie McNally from the Lawrence Sanders’ mystery collection. Archie is a cad! But he’s so funny and smart and charming, you just keep forgiving him.
